In my days of relative innocence, I was acutely aware of the importance of lifestyle.
A house out in the suburbs, with bourgeois trappings was not appealing.
That sort of setting was uncomfortable enough to be a deal breaker in relationship terms.
In the end, we’ve made it up as we’ve gone along.
Now, we might appear to be eccentric, but at least we feel secure.
