‘Prosperity’ is inspired by the second phase of activities in the Odun Omo Olowu – an annual homecoming festival that is observed in Orile Owu – a city state in Southwestern Nigeria, which is where my father’s family originates from’ – Ogungbe says. ‘I hope it will give listeners a glimpse into the dreams, goals and aspirations of a community that is sometimes misunderstood’.
Juwon Ogungbe regards himself as a singing theatre artist. He has composed, directed, and performed in many shows and productions for leading British theatre and opera companies over several decades. He has also released four EPs of his music in the last 3 years. King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba – an opera he composed, has also been performed to wide acclaim in recent years. Ogungbe aims to raise the profile of African aesthetics in Opera and Music Theatre. Origin – his new EP inspired by the Odun Omo Olowu Festival, is to be released in August 2023.
