Globalised big business took notice of marginalised people at the tail end of the pandemic era. Nowadays, one only has to be in the right place at the right time to set wheels of corporate machinery in motion.
It would be churlish to begrudge beneficiaries of the largesse that has been dished out. The most one can hope for is to witness these people making good use of their opportunities.
Word of mouth sometimes sends us in the direction of situations where this sort of thing has happened. High falutin’ emporiums make a fuss about presenting work that professes to tell stories on behalf of marginalised communities.
I saw one of these, only yesterday. One can only respond to these spectacles, based on personal experience and knowledge.
Suffice to say, a lot more intergenerational dialogues need to happen within communities of folks of African descent.
