One of the consequences of an unexpected hiatus is an uncertain future. Choices and decisions are being made that leave many feeling uneasy. Some folks have to live with disapproval and unpopularity as a result.
Freedom and personal responsibility are complementary bedfellows. Maturity and vision combine to take the long term view. Passion and idealism generate ‘feel good’ energy, but life is not easy, regardless of what we might experience as children.
Human beings have wide ranging capacities for coping with setbacks. Many of us prefer to avoid the angst of struggling against repression and pain. If we are lucky, we get off lightly.
Adapting to deal with restriction and discomfort takes effort, fortitude and endurance, but this is part of the deal each of us signs up for, in order to have a life.
Life is sweet, but it is also hard.
