As festive season approaches, one might spare a thought for gatekeepers who rest.
How did they get their jobs? Were they selected? Or did they appoint themselves?
They were likely to be blessed with flair and luck, to have the wherewithal to build profiles and standing in their areas of work.
And yet, no one is infallible. They made choices and decisions that delighted some of us and offended others.
Believing their own hype, in several cases, they ran out of steam. One can only ponder on this truism – ‘There, but for the grace of God, go I’.
