A power drunk apparatchik of a major arts organisation once dismissed a piece I composed as ‘fluff’.

Wallowing in her certainty that ‘might is right’, she chose to do so in the midst of a sizable gathering.

At that point in time, responding to her with my opinion of her behaviour would have been a self destructive act in career terms, so I kept schtum.

Several year later, I saw the same person presenting an event to promote work from a similar genre to mine. Even then, she couldn’t disguise the patronising slant of her attitude towards the work.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could simply stay in our own lanes, unless if we have the required humility and refinement to do otherwise?
