Perhaps it is natural that many arts practitioners are attracted to established, durable platforms. Building connection and trust are often dependent on meeting people where they are, with what they already know.

These platforms all started from somewhere. It is likely that they were brought into being by folks who were confident about where they stood in their societies.

Confidence can be worked on and developed. No one has to remain tethered to the notions of those who brought them up.

One can discover an affinity for a pursuit that makes little or no sense to one’s original social circle. This doesn’t have to lead to a permanent dissociation.

New platforms can be built, that can absorb and accommodate hitherto outlandish sensibilities.
