Musical chairs of expression
Customs and traditions are the nuts and bolts of a cultural lexicon. It could be taken for granted that most human beings carry some of these in their toolkits of expression.
After that, what comes next? Some of us are happy to spend our lives dusting down the heirlooms and putting them on display.
Others sense that there is more to life than this. They have ambitions to create new terms of reference, but they haven’t invested time or energy in strengthening the muscles that make things that might (or might not) work.
Some say ‘the customer is always right’. But the customer often dream of new possibilities. This is why they are the customers and (in most cases) not the makers.
Another type of person is willing to take chances, to discover new things that work.
