A poem about peace, read by a child in a public space, stimulated me enough to reflect about my journey as an artist.
An adventurous spirit nudged me in the direction of music that some ‘serious’ musicians regarded as a bridge too far.
One song of that sort was composed by Charles Ives, set to the same peace poem read by the child. I liked it and could hear myself singing it in public.
I actually did sing it with one accompanist, but couldn’t persuade others to perform it with me.
It’s a distant memory now, almost as if it never happened.
