In general terms, each of us wants to be seen, heard and possibly remembered. Being who we actually are should be enough of a reason for this to happen. Social Media has made it possible for this to be the case, in ways that our forebears didn’t have access to.

The penny hasn’t dropped for many of us, (including me). Old ways of seeking recognition and validation are deeply embedded in our mindsets. Ego driven pursuits still rule the day to a large extent.

The much quoted saying by Andy Warhol about everyone being famous for fifteen minutes in the future has come to pass. Perhaps he was thinking of people being recognised as commodities, since he was interested in the star system that was created by Hollywood studios.

We don’t have to jump through hoops to become commodities for anyone else. It shouldn’t matter whether we can get the attention of ten or ten thousand others at any specific moment in time.

Maintaining a balanced perspective about being seen and heard will probably make life more bearable for most of us than it is at present.
