Works of art that achieve transcendence are often cited as examples of how great it would have been to live in the era they were created.

People had to live through the 1950s to reach the Swinging Sixties. In the aftermath of World War 2, Rock ‘n’ roll and the marketing notion of the teenager came into being.

Talented artists of that era were lucky to be associated with a seismic cultural change, which many of us still hold in high regard till the present moment.

In actual fact, the 1950s was a time of repression (I have been told :-) )

The probable truth of the matter is this: great art is being produced all the time and should be appreciated outside of the context in which it was created.
