There was a time (as the James Brown song goes), when bright lights and the glare of attention seemed like the pot of gold at one end of the rainbow.
Even in those days, it was clear that the emperor’s clothes were illusory. Nevertheless, we pressed on, aspiring towards finding the spotlight.
We observed others as they wore masks and costumes, aiming to hit the spot. In some cases, they managed to make the most of modest talents.
And the years rolled by. Permutations of play acting kept on morphing, leaving only a few still standing from those heady days.
Looking back has its merits, but the present moment always has more to offer.
