Imperialists developed several modes or approaches for keeping tabs on and maintaining control of the communities they managed to subjugate. Assimilation was one of them.
People living under manners were encouraged to emulate the lifestyles of those in charge.
Some folks who drank the Kool Aid excelled in suppressing urges other than those expected of them. They were rewarded sometimes, for so doing.
Others looked at the freedom of spirit that thrived amongst the subjugators and decided they would assert the right to choose how to live their lives.
With the passing of time, the subjugated folks became deft at living the assimilated lifestyle. Suddenly, lines were blurred between the activities of those who were conditioned and those who stood outside of the hustle. Some folks had to go back to the drawing board.
