Hopefully, we all pass through this world for a reason. Every generation should have some contributions to make to the development of our civilisations. This might seem like a banal observation to make, but it hasn’t always felt as if all of us have been seen and heard.

There is something different about the present moment. Is it because we are reaching a point where some of the more mature folks are struggling to come to terms with the fact that they cannot pull the strings of influence forever?

Some values, beliefs and symbols remain intact through the ages. Other things have to change in response to the evolving needs of those who have the wherewithal to make choices. This is simply a fact of life.

When one takes a close look at the world’s diverse cultures, it becomes clear that some of us have been muzzled, possibly due to the effective conditioning of our parents. Many of us are waking up to find that we can make things up as we go along, sometimes reflecting ruefully about lost time.

If there is any lesson to be learnt, perhaps we need to be mindful about not stifling the visions and aspirations of younger generations. They need space to be themselves as well.
