Today, I’ve lit a candle for the soul of someone who was an anchor in my life for over three decades.
Due to the pandemic, our yearly ritual was curtailed, but for many years we would celebrate our solar returns together.
One of those celebrations was in a Fish restaurant in Borough Market. I remember telling this person how much of an exemplary figure she was to me.
She was puzzled at the time. I had to explain in detail exactly what I meant.
Last November we were lucky to have one more chance to celebrate. By the turn of the New Year, things were different. The memories are still alive, so the soft cashmere candle burns brightly in her honour.
