In a recent conversation, I used the example of a bottle filled with palm wine to make a point about cultural expression.

If the palm wine is the content, then the bottle would be used to store it, for delivery to those who want to drink.

Languages, genres, art forms, styles and media platforms could be compared to the bottle. They are used to store, convey and disseminate content, which is usually based upon one aspect of the human condition or another.

Sometimes, people are distracted by their perceptions of the symbolic bottle. Design can make a difference in this regard. A beautiful, elegant or stylish container is obviously more likely to be attractive than something basic or plain.

Making sure the content is of the highest quality is probably much more important.
